F.A.Q.

1. Who are SIMFH?

SIMFH is an international group of people who like (learning to) playing hockey together, having a few drinks and snacks after the match and meeting new people in our beloved city.

Shanghai International Mixed Field Hockey Club was founded in 2022 by former Shanghai retired professional hockey athletes and SUPERMODELFIT (SMF) fitness studio.

We are welcoming both beginners as well as experienced players.

Our trainers have professional coaching and teaching certifications. And if you are a beginner, you will definitely benefit from our coaches. Through playing hockey, we learn how to work as a team. We learn to play with teammates both old and new, always encouraging and lifting them up.

2. Is SIMFH an official league club?

We are not an official club. We train mid-weeks and weekends. Members play when they can and when they want.

3. What type of people play?

We are a mixed adult team of all nationalities and all abilities. Any minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian. Beginners are welcome!

4. Who do SIMFH play then?

SIMFH play against each other. We divide into colors and make equal sides. Occasionally we organize friendlies against other social hockey teams

5. Where do SIMFH play?

We play at 5th Floor, Building 5, X2 Creative Space, number 20 Chaling North Road in Shanghai or at Metro City Mall in Xuijahui (Metro stop Xuijiahui). Parking is available. For more info about the directions click here to visit our contact  page.

6. When do SIMFH play?

As often as possible! We generally play from  all year round. We play on the weekends and on wednesdays.

7. Weekend or wednesday?

Always we play in the weekend, on saturday, sometimes on sunday, this depends on the day that most members choose in our Wechat signup group. During the week we play on wednesday. We send out a message to inform members of the allocated day and time.

8. What time?

We request an afternoon slot so that people can come after work or dinner, however, this is not often available. We usually play sometime between 6pm and 8pm in the weekends and 8pm and 10pm on weekdays.

9. What do I need to bring?

Sportys wear, sport shoes and long socks (soccer socks) are required. We provide socks for 50 yuan/pair if needed. Protection like mouthguards and gloves can be bought on site. We provide shin pads, hockey sticks, balls and uniforms, etc. We have spare sticks that you can borrow and washable shin pads but would recommend you purchase your own equipment if you are a regular player. Taobao, generally stocks a good albeit limited range of sticks and shinpads.

10. Any tournaments or real matches?

We play in a number of tournaments a year:

  • Local tournaments organized by us or other (chinese) teams
  • We play around chrismas and at the beginning of summer some tournaments as well do we play indoor hockey tournaments.
11. Am I insured by SIMFH?

No, you need to make sure your own insurance covers you for playing field hockey. SIMFH cannot be held responsible for any accidents or injuries sustained during matches or training. Insurance is required for outdoor sports. Get it on Alipay-sports accident insurance. No need to get it if you already have other accident insurance.

12. How much does it cost to play and how do I pay?

Every time you come along:

teaching :100rmb / 2hr for the first time ,
teaching:129rmb / 2hr (regular price)
no-teaching:75rmb / 2hr

Course structure: 40-60 minutes teaching + 60-80 minutes playing

Money is collected by WeChat or at the pitch.

13. Where does the money go?

The money covers the cost of the rental of the pitch. It also covers advertising costs and other charges. We have a float that is used to cover the deposits needed when organizing the tournament and any other associated costs not covered by tournament fees. This is a fixed amount which is kept year on year. Any extra money at the end of the year is used to cover the costs of replenishing the first aid kit and replacing broken sticks, balls and other equipment. When there is sufficient surplus at the end of year, we organize dinner & drinks after the last match.

14. Who collects the money?

The organizer (currently Freya) collects the money, writes down who has paid and keeps the information with all the hockey documentation in the SIMFH file. This file is available for all members to see. The organizer pays the money into our account and makes the payments to the Pitch owners. In his/her absence, another person is assigned the task of collecting money. This is usually another trainer.
